Propolis

Bee Resin

What exactly is propolis?

Propolis is a thermoplastic mixture primarily composed of resins and wax. It also contains pollen, essential oils, and bee secretions. The base material for propolis (resins and balsams) is collected by bees as a resinous substance from the buds and wounds of various trees and then mixed with wax, pollen, essential oils from flower buds, and saliva secretions (enzymes).

Sealing, Disinfecting, and Preserving

Use inside the Beehive

For the bee, propolis is an important building material as well as a natural antibiotic that helps keep the hive germ-free and healthy. Starting with sealing the entrance hole and filling even the smallest cracks and crevices in the hive, bees also use propolis as a coating on the comb to stabilize and disinfect it. Dead intruders such as wasps or hornets are even mummified inside the hive to prevent the spread of potential pathogens.

Our Portfolio

Propolis, in its raw form and depending on the harvesting method, is irregular in shape and difficult to process. As a result, there are only limited options for its further use.

We assist with implementation and offer the right products for the intended use. The positive properties of propolis for bees can also benefit humans.

Propolis

Raw and Granulated

Propolis is used in the beehive as a building material and acts as a growth inhibitor against bacteria and viruses. The resin and pollen balsam in propolis are rich in flavonoids, whose composition varies greatly depending on geographic and botanical origin. The color of propolis also differs due to the different source plants, which can also affect its scent. We offer our customers green, brown, red, and black propolis according to their preferences, available both in raw form and in purified, ground quality.

Propolis

Extracts

By gently extracting raw propolis and subsequently filtering out all insoluble components, we are able to offer very pure and high-quality extracts in various concentrations. Depending on the intended application, we gladly advise our customers on whether a liquid, viscous, or solid extract should be used, as well as which extraction solvents (ethanol, glycerin, etc.) are best suited.

Propolis

Powders

Grinding propolis into a homogeneous and free-flowing powder form expands its range of applications. Mixing it with other substances or direct encapsulation are just two examples of how the processing industry utilizes this potential. Only the physical form of the propolis is altered, not the composition of the raw material. Additionally, a variety of additives and flow agents can be used according to customer requirements.
